From amateur to premium package — what you really get.
The lowest price is never the best choice for a wedding. An amateur DJ who makes a technical mistake (sound dropout, bad transition) or who can't manage the atmosphere can ruin your evening.
Investing 300 to 650 € 500 € −150 € more in an experienced professional is the best value you'll get for your wedding. The music makes up 5 to 8% of your total budget, but determines 80% of the mood of your evening.

Before signing a contract, make sure you fully understand all the costs linked to your DJ service. Here are the most common extra fees that can inflate the bill.
Travel fees (>50 km) — Most DJs include travel within a 30 to 50 km radius. Beyond that, expect between 0.50€ and 0.65€ per kilometre. For a Brussels DJ travelling to Liège (100 km), that's roughly 50 to 65€ extra. For the Belgian coast from Brussels (120 km), around 60 to 110 € 80 € −30 €. It's not huge, but ask for the exact amount in advance.
Overtime — Is your evening running past midnight? The extra hour usually costs between 80 € 60 € −20 € and 130 € 100 € −30 € excl. VAT. Some DJs include some flexibility (30 minutes), others charge from the first minute. Clarify this point in the contract and budget for 1 to 2 extra hours, because the best evenings never stop at the planned time.
Complex setup — If your venue is a castle with stairs, a hall on an upper floor without a lift, or an outdoor event requiring a specific setup (generator, rain protection), a surcharge of 130 € 100 € −30 € to 330 € 250 € −80 € may apply. Inform your DJ of the venue's logistical constraints from the first contact.
Sound limiter in some venues — More and more reception halls in Belgium impose a sound limiter that automatically cuts the power if the volume exceeds a certain threshold (usually 85-90 dB). It's not a direct cost, but an experienced DJ will adapt their setup and mix to respect the limit while keeping a blazing atmosphere. An amateur DJ will quickly be overwhelmed by this constraint.
VAT: 6% artistic vs 21% technical — In Belgium, artistic services (DJ entertainment, live musicians, musical ceremony) benefit from the reduced rate of 6% VAT. The rental of equipment alone (without artistic service), photography and video are charged at 21%. A DJ charging 1 040 € 800 € −240 € excl. VAT at 6% will cost you 848€ incl. VAT. The same at 21% would cost you 968€ incl. VAT, a 160 € 120 € −40 € difference. Check the VAT rate on your quote.
